Liberty University’s Doctor of Philosophy in Counseling program provides advanced training in the field of professional counseling or marriage and family therapy, equipping individuals for work in either private or public practice, as well as providing the necessary qualification to teach at the university level. This degree is comprised of specialized courses based on biblical principles that supply the values, knowledge, and skills needed for effective work as a professional counselor, and is well-suited for individuals with either a master’s degree in counseling or seminary who seek to extend their professional standing in the community. This program utilizes internships to give students experience in the academic teaching field, and offers a flexible practicum to allow students to pursue work in their particular area of interest. Students may choose from two specializations, Professional Counseling or Pastoral Care and Counseling.
